Building an eco house

After 13 years at our present house, we decided we want to move again. We love the house that we built but there are a few good reasons to move right now. We bought 3.8 acres of land last year that backs onto the Madawaska River near Arnprior, Ontario. Most of land is flat and open to the South, so we will get lots of sunlight. This will be good for growing food, adding solar power and keeping the mosquitoes away. Also, there will still be woods at the back of the lot on a roughly 40' slope down to the river (so no flooding).

After plenty of searching we found EkoBuilt a local company that specialises in building eco friendly homes. We will build a home using passive principles, which means having lots of insulation (r 80 walls, r 110 roof), triple glazed high performance windows, having a really airtight building and maximising the South facing position of the building.
